Kimberley

A wooden plaque situated in St. Peter’s Kimberley commemorates those who fought and died in both world wars. The names of three fallen veterans are considered here.

 

Herbert J. Spinks

Herbert was born in Wicklewood in 1891. He fought in the Indian Expeditionary Force. He died in a prison camp in 1916 and was buried in Baghdad, Iraq.

Edward Wodehouse

Edward was born in 1898. He is the younger brother of Philip Wodehouse. He was awarded the Military Cross but was killed in action in 1918 aged 20. His body was never found.

Philip Wodehouse

Philip was born in 1886. He served in the Censor’s Staff in France. He fell from a wall in 1918 and sustained a severe back injury. He was sent home but died a few months later in 1919.
