Hardingham
The War Memorial is set on the back wall in St. George’s Hardingham. It is made of wood complete with golden plaques inscribed with the names of the fallen. Of the veterans, Ernest Risebrook and Arthur Whitehand are buried in the churchyard behind the church.
John T. Abel
John was born on 8th August 1895 and died on 27 March 1918 in France aged 22. He now rests at the Cabaret-Rouge Cemetery in Souchez, France.
Bertie W. Adcock
Bertie was born 10th February 1893 and died on the 15th November 1916 aged 23 after he was killed by a German sniper in No Man’s Land. His body was never recovered but he is commemorated at the Thiepval Memorial.
Charles H. Balaam
Charles was born on 24th February 1895 and died on 20th April 1917 aged 22. He now rests at Deir el Belah War Cemetery in Israel.
Alfred J. Chaplin
Alfred was born in 1891 and was reported missing, presumed dead on the 14th October 1917 aged 26. His body was never found but he is commemorated at the Arras Memorial in France.
William A. P. Foster
William was born on the 2nd June 1887 and died in Germany on the 11th November 1914. He now rests in the Niederzwehren Cemetery in Germany.
William Gayford
William died at sea on the 19th November 1915. He was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey.
Frank Hunt
Frank was born in 1895. He was killed in action in March 1918 and buried at the Epehy Wood Memorial Cemetery in France.
John T. Scase
John was born in 1879 and was reported missing, presumed dead, in 1916. His body was never found but he is commemorated at Thiepval Memorial.
Horace C. Stubbings
Horace was born the 25th July 1895 and passed away on 6th January 1918 in Deopham. He now rests in Deopham St Andrew Church in Deopham.
Arthur G. Websdale
Arthur was born on the 23rd June 1884 and was killed in action in France on 17th April 1918 aged 33.
Arthur S. Adcock
Arthur was born in September 1889 and reported missing at the Battle of the Somme on the 11th October 1916 aged 27. His body was never found but he is commemorated at the Thiepval Memorial in France.
Harry Andrews
Harry was born in 1893 and died at the Battle of Guillemont on the 4th September 1916 aged 23. He now rests in the Serre Road Cemetery in France.
John W. Brown
John was born 20th March 1868 and died in 1915. His body was never recovered but his is commemorated at the Chatham Naval Memorial.
Harry A. Egle
Harry was born in 1886 and died of wounds in a French hospital on 10 March 1917 aged 31. He now rests in Aveluy Communal Cemetery Extension in France.
Wilfred J. Fox
Wilfred was born 4th June 1898 and died in France on 3rd September 1918 aged 20. He now rests at the Sunken Road Cemetery in France.
Alfred Hunt
Alfred was born on 2 June 1897 and died at the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 aged 20.
Ernest D. Risebrook
Ernest was born on the 13th November 1898 and died on the 27th July 1917 aged 18 in Hardingham. He now rests in Hardingham Church.
Robert Sent
Robert was born in 1879 and was killed in France on the 18th September 1918 aged 39. He now rests in Hancourt British Cemetery in France.
Geoffrey S. Walley
Geoffrey was born on the 17th April 1892 and was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme in 20th August 1916.
Arthur W. Whitehand
Arthur was born on the 23rd June 1884 and died in hospital on the 3rd May 1917 aged 33. He now rests in Hardingham Church.
